SLA Presents: A Morning Meander with Magnificent Mosses
Join LRCC member Elly for a morning meander through Belknap Woods while we look for and chat about magnificent mosses! The program runs from 09:00 am to 12:00 pm on Sunday, August 11, 2024. Learn fun facts about uses of moss by indigenous people, WWI medics, animals, and how mosses are still used today, as well as facts about the plants themselves and what makes them so special! Printed materials will be provided to help us identify the different types of moss we will see. Feel free to bring any material you have on moss like books or identification guides. Come learn or share your knowledge about moss!
Participants should come prepared with sturdy shoes, lots of water, and any snacks they would like. The Belknap Woods trail is a two-mile loop and is considered an easy hike, without much elevation change and good trail conditions. Bug spray and sunscreen are encouraged. This event will take place rain or shine, so bring rain gear if that's what the weather is looking like.
