Chainsaw Felling Training with Appalachian Mountain Club

Up to 6 participants who have had previous saw training will learn the basics of tree felling using the Scandinavian Open Face technique. Bore cutting with a chainsaw will be used to construct the hinge. Objectives, hazards, leans, escape, and cutting plans will be the primary focus. The day will begin with a brief classroom presentation, then the remainder of the day will be spent in the field evaluating and felling trees. A felling demonstration will be undertaken to clarify any questions. Bore cutting practice will also be undertaken. A certificate of completion will be given to each participant at the end of the day. Evaluations, for those needing USFS saw cards, will be provided within 2 weeks. Training will be held Wednesday, August 23rd and Thursday, August 24th, 8:30 AM-5:00 PM each day.
