Reading the Forest Landscape with Squam Lakes Association

Read the Forested Landscape with SLA

Join the Squam Lakes Association’s Lakes Region Conservation Corps member Meg as we take a walk back in time at Five Finger Point on October 15th 10-3PM. Using the book Reading the Forested Landscape: A Natural History of New England by Tom Wessels, we will have a beautiful fall hike on the moderately difficult 2.7-mile loop trail, and stop at different spots to talk about the history of the land and passages from the book.

Parking is limited at Five Finger Point, so we encourage participants to arrive at the SLA campus at 9:20 so we can carpool to the trailhead.

Participants are encouraged to bring and wear appropriate attire, including appropriate footwear that you don’t mind getting dirty. You should also bring enough food and water for the duration of the program; there will be a break for lunch, during which we will stop to sit and read a chapter from the book. If participants have a copy of this book, they are more than welcome to bring it along!

For more information, or to sign up for this Adventure Ecology visit the SLA website (squamlakes.org) or contact the SLA directly (603-968-7336). The SLA also offers other guided hikes and Adventure Ecology programming throughout the year. These free programs are open to the public and cover a variety of nature and conservation related topics. Adventure Ecology programs are presented by the SLA’s Lakes Region Conservation Corps AmeriCorps members, who perform important conservation work in support of the Association’s mission.
