Limmer and Community Sole

Limmer (Peter Limmer & Sons and Limmer Boot Company) provides custom and stock boots for hikers who are looking for a durable, reliable, re-sole ready boot that won’t need to be replaced every few years. They believe in the power of growing community and relationships in the outdoors, and know that the moments of introspection and self-reliance learned there, can transform any individual. That’s why LimmerFest was created - to celebrate human connections to nature!

We chatted with Adam Lane-Olsen, of Peter Limmer & Sons, and Chris Sawyer, of Limmer Boot Company,  about the first-ever LimmerFest and what it means to bring the community together around conservation, and recreation.

Limmer has a rich history in Mt. Washington Valley. What do you love about being in MWV?

After starting his business in the Bavarian town of Vachendorf, Peter Limmer Sr. moved his family to the United States, arriving at Ellis Island on April 8, 1926. He worked in the Jamaican Plains neighborhood of Boston until 1950, and then moved to the Mount Washington Valley because it reminded him of his home in Bavaria. The Limmer family has been a staple in the community ever since. We love the beauty of the area, the 70 year legacy that the Limmer family built here, and the opportunity to continue providing high quality footwear for our customers. In addition to the beauty of the MWV, we love the incredible people who are recreating, building community, creating opportunity in the place passionate about the outdoors and living where they recreate and the community that has been built. We enjoy sharing the MWV as a destination for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts from around the world.

Can you tell us a bit about LimmerFest? What are you most excited about?

LimmerFest is intended to help our community of hikers gather together in celebrating the history of the Limmer family, in the mountains that reminded Peter Limmer Sr. of his home in Bavaria. We chose the first weekend of June because this is when the American Hiking Society (AHS) celebrates National Trails Day. Being the boot selected by many trail crews, and 2 AHS founders, William Kemsley (Backpacker Bill) and Jim Kern, we feel LimmerFest is a great opportunity to advocate for people from all backgrounds to be able to both enjoy, and preserve local hiking trails. We are excited to hike, listen to music from the Hickory Horned Devils, and join together with the Limmer community at Ledge Brewing on Saturday June 3rd.

This is the first LimmerFest ever! How do you envision the event will grow in the future?

The vision is for this event is to kick off to the hiking season in a way that connects the Limmer community to one another, and to bring together/celebrate other like-minded trail/conservation organizations and small Outdoor Industry brands/businesses in the area. We are excited to support the mission of the Granite Outdoor Alliance as a shared part of all of each of those goals!

Learn more about LimmferFest here! We hope to see you on the trails!
